I have the Essential 2000 book/dvd too, suggested to me from my original teacher. I found the dvd helpful for improving my rhythm. I admire you for taking this on without a teacher. Did you know how to read music before or did you play another instrument? I haven't had a lesson in a couple of months and I really miss the guidance. Interesting to hear how you found me. I found you when searching for adult beginner violin. I, too, always wanted to learn. I just started 5 months ago. No lessons yet. I use "essential elements 2000 for strings", it does have a dvd play along. But I have never used it. I have the same issue with that 4th finger. I put a korg tuner on the music stand. Slooowly getting better sound. Keep playing, as my 26yr old son tells me, when I become discouraged. "If it was easy, everyone would play". Katie Vickey, thanks for sharing your practice.
